ƛumaqstuʔaƛin (warm the insides)

The late Jessie Hamilton shared an oral history of a time when there used to be a large cauldron that would come out once in a while. They would fill it with water so that people from all over could come and add things to the soup when they arrived. Auntie Jessie made a point of saying that someone always brought a whole pound of butter to throw in. The soup would cook and people would sit and talk, tell stories, sing and just visit.

After searching the corners of the continent, we have found a cauldron and built a fire pit for this gathering. Let’s revive this way of coming together with people from all over.

Thursday October 24
qʷicčiƛma studio - 5323 River Road

Feel free to come and join us on Thursday, October 24 starting around noon. Bring something to throw in the pot if you’d like, or just sit and visit for a while. Soup should be ready by around 4:30; even then it won’t be too late to add something.

The general idea for the menu is a seafood soup/chowder with tea and bannock. There will be bowls, spoons, napkins and cups on hand. There will be a small art sale to support future cauldron gatherings and visiting artists. Rain *and* shine.

We don’t know what the soup will look like or how this will all go down, but it will be delicious!
