We will keep going until we achieve 100% local printmaking.
Emily Thiessen in Residence
We invited Emily Thiessen back to work on a second print in August 2025, so we could continue our local ink research and address a few things we were curious about. The resulting print is an edition of 30, made from madder, ochre, and carbon black collected from the studio firepit. We will list it for sale soon, with proceeds to be split between Emily Thiessen and C.R.A.F.T.

In addition to making the print itself, Emily helped us to finish setting up the 'new Thieme' vacuum table which has been a game changer in the studio. We also experimented with our UV light reader to make solar exposures which has a lot of potential in terms of space and efficiency, not to mention being able to expose large screens. We had good results, although once the fire came, we decided to work inside with our original exposure unit.

The project was interrupted by the momentous Mount Underwood forest fire, which happened alongside a series of days with 38+ degree heat. The conditions were difficult to work in as the smoke filled the valley; the studio was hot and we weren't entirely air tight even with the doors closed. We decided to complete the print later in the year; collaborative printmaking requires physical and mental acuity and it was just healthier for everyone to pick it up later.
