The Community Forms Itself

Summer 2026. Our July 1 event was a success. The word is getting out, we counted about 50 people coming and going. Quilts, hide tanning, works in progress in the print studio and outside. Grain bowls, hot dogs and ice cream sandwiches. People wandering from place to place. We ran out of toilet paper (marking here to remember for next time.) Coming together and visiting with a focus on learning more about, and celebrating, arts practices happening here in our community. There is so much interesting, complicated, informed work happening, happening quietly, generating more than we can ever quantify. Many thanks to Janette and Lonnie, Susan, and Rod for putting it out there.

Print Residency July 12-17

Later in the month we hosted a screen printing intensive with artists from the Coast and one from over the hump. After a spring and early summer that challenged every single aspect of our printmaking setup, we entered the week a bit nervous with new chemistry for our screens, a rigorous but new DIY washout filtration system, and new folks joining.

The week was beautiful. It wasn't about technical things, it was about making and connecting and experimenting. There was an unspoken, shared theme of putting in the work to do things differently: working with recycled materials, found beach plastics, and locally foraged plants and ideas. Hot weather. Camping + residency work = complicated packing for artists. Thanks to Andrea and Tamsin for so generously bringing us food and hanging out, what a gift! And thanks to Carly, Naas, Ray, Lesley, and Fin for the laughs and of course, all the breakthroughs, ideas and work.

We conclude the summer with a little glimpse, a gallery pop-up is in the works, as soon as we can get the space spruced up.
